The College News Design Contest, sponsored by the Society for News Design, is held each spring at the University of Missouri's School of Journalism.

The awards recognize the best design work done by students — at campus papers or at internships.

The print judging took place April 21, 2009, at the Missouri School of Journalism. Check out our judging blog to hear and read the judges' thoughts on the entries. The contest is divided into the five divisions. Click on each for a detailed listing of categories in each division.

The 2009 contest accepted work published on or after March 16, 2008, and on or before March 15, 2009. Entries were due April 1, 2009.

Entrants must currently be enrolled in, or have been enrolled in at the time of publication, a two- or four-year university.

Submit full-page tearsheets or a full-size photocopy. Tape multi-page entries together so loose pages don't get lost. (We'll have hundreds of entries, and if pages fall out of an envelope without an entry form, they just might never find their way back home.) On the back of each page, in the upper left-hand corner, tape an entry form and designate "page 1 of 2," etc. Entries may be credited to multiple designers or “Staff,” except in the designer of the year categories.

Winners will be asked to submit pdfs or jpegs of their pages to a flickr gallery.

Entry fees: $8 for each entry. For overall design of a newspaper (A15 and B15), redesigns (A17 and B17) and student designer of the year (C and D), the entry fee is $14 each. Include payment with the entires, please. Make checks payable to Missouri SSND. Purchase orders are accepted. Our federal ID number is 43-600-3859W.
