The Missouri School of Journalism began the first Society for News Design student affiliate, and it's still going strong. The group today is dedicated to educating student designers and encouraging their enthusiasm.
The chapter’s primary task each year is to host the College News Design Contest, which is co-sponsored by SND. The awards recognize the best design work done by students at campus publications or during internships.

Entries for the 2012 College News Design Contest must be received no later than Monday, April 9. This year we have added a Multimedia/Digital Designer of the Year Award. The Multimedia/Digital Designer of the Year and the Print Designer of the Year will each receive $750 to use toward a trip to the SND annual workshop in Cleveland in September 2012, provided by the SND Foundation.
